Rated 1 out of 5 by from 55 gallon LED aqurium kits with uneven frames. I've purchased three 55 LED aquarium kits in the past year and out of those three kits two have crooked top frames. The left side hood does not sit evenly on the top frame and upon further inspection , I noticed the top frame is uneven. This issue caused a leak on the top right side and I got the impression that the covers were uneven but upon further inspection, the top frames are crooked on two of the three kits I purchased. Unfortunately it is a recurring issue, I love the kits, the LED lights, and all but I won't be buying another Marineland aquarium again. For any prospective customers, check your top frames meticulously, you might be in for a surprise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top notch customer service!!! I bought the 29 gallon biowheel combo set and had some issues with one of the components. I voiced my displeasure on this website. The store i bought it from gave me no hassle in replacing the part and i was on my way. Not good enough for marineland. These people take pride in the quality of their products and i was contacted immediately by a rep. I felt she really felt sorry for my troubles and made up for my hassle in such a great way. Ive been a user and endorser of their products for years and will continue knowing im getting top notch equipment and have top notch service reps to take care of any issues that may arise. Buy their stuff people!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Customer Servie If you buy this tank please be sure to buy an aquarium stand to place it on. Since it was not a big tank I placed it on my granite countertop and after a year had a leak on the bottom of tank. I spoke with Barbara Link at Mainland who was helpful and really cared about the issue. She went above and beyond what I expected anyone to do. She investigated and wanted to figure out why their tank was leaking. She narrowed it down and figured out why. Thank you Barbara and Marineland. I will definetly buy an aquarium stand this time. By the way before it did leak the tank was great. The LED lights are just right and no problems with the filter it came with. I would buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Aquarium! I purchased this aquarium at a local pet store. I bought the 55 gallon kit without the stand. ":Petsmart advertises this kit but they don't sell it without the stand" but that is another story. I am really pleased so far the kit came with every thing you need to set up a new aquarium, just add gravel and decorations. I am adding another penguin 350 but that is because I am going to use this tank for African cichlids. The LED lights are awesome and the pump is quiet. What's not to like? If you are wanting to get a bigger tank I highly recommend this tank. I have 3 Marineland aquariums the smallest being a 37 gallon. All of them have been quality aquariums.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Office aquascape I bought a 55gal kit from my local pet super store, instead of the individual pieces. I set up my tank (the first tank since my childhood). I ran the tank for nearly a month with no fish; just gravel, rocks, a few plastic plants, and go the water chemistry perfect. All the components such as the lights, heater, and hood all worked great. Once the fish were in, I saw the value of the bio-wheel type of filtration. I love it. I now have over the past nine months, 9 mature angel fish (3 pair are actually breeding regularly), neon tetras, Plecos, and razbora tetras. The Marineland kit made the set up so convenient. I plan on getting another larger tank where I will probably double up on the marineland filtration system, and heating. I love, and have no regrets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad leak Bought a 10g biowheel starter kit two and a half weeks ago and everything was great until I lost a priceless family heirloom organ because the tank decided to have a bottom seam let go, and I mean lost half the water in the time it took me to get my three fish out and the tank outside. I hesitantly accepted the same model in hopes that this one will not do the same, honestly uncomfortable leaving the house for too long in fear I'll come home to dead fish or a flooded living room, poor craftsmanship in terms of sealing the unit. Everything else was alright in terms of functionality, would have been thrilled with it had it not done this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 10 gallon tank sprung a leak! We purchased the 10- gallon tank starter kit and were very happy with the supplies included. We have had the tank for about two years, which has never been moved from it's originally location. Last night we noticed very wet carpets and a pool of water in front of the tank. We immediately rescued our fish and began investing. It appears that the sealant on the front of the tank came loose. It was big enough to fit a finger into. I am adding photos. We are thankful to have found the leak before any more damaged occurred. We are disappointed that the tank only lasted such a short time period - our fish outlived our tank!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect starter kit for newbie aquaist What is not to like about Marineland's aquarium kits? I bought the 55gal kit and absolutely love the hood design as well as all the equipment that came with it. If you add up the price of the tank and equipment alone, you save more by buying the kits. The Penguin 350 is perfect as it filters up to 75gal, but you may want to add another penguin or tetra filter on the other hood for over filtration ( its a matter or personal preference, my fish store guy recommends redunancy). As for the LED lights, yes, before warned about the gap in the clear plastic windows on the hood, it isn't snugged or water tight, so moisture from the water below can condense into and up wher the LEDs are housed, a good inexpensive way is before you install (snap in) the LEDs, get a clear plastic sheet (like a thin paper sheet holder sold at the dollar store or office supply) and trace and cut out a sheet the size of the LED housing. Cut a line in the top middle to fit the plastic tab, then put your custom fit thin plastic sheet on top of the hood. Then place your LEDs housing over it and snap into place. You see now that the plastic sheet is wedge between the LED and the hood's plastic window, making an air and water tight barrier. There may be condensation between the hood's plastic windows, the thin plastic sheet, but that is nothing to worry about, since the important part is not having water condensation in the LEDs, corroding them.
